Public urged to celebrate Halloween and Bonfire Night responsibly |

With Halloween and Bonfire Night fast approaching, we’re urging communities across Staffordshire to celebrate responsibly. This time of year can be scary for those who live alone and the most vulnerable in our communities so we’re urging people to think carefully about how they celebrate. Superintendent Cheryl Hannan, Head of Local Policing North, said: “We are not here to stop people celebrating Halloween and Bonfire Night but we want people to do so responsibly as we often see a rise in anti-social behaviour (ASB) at this time of year. “I would urge all parents to speak to their children about their safety, always know where they are, and educate them on the dangers of fireworks. “The festive season is not an excuse for anti-social behaviour and putting yourselves and others at risk. It will not be tolerated, and we will take robust action against those responsible.” Follow our top tips to ensure everyone can celebrate safely: If you’re going trick or treating, make sure to go in a group or with a responsible adult and only visit areas that are well lit, don’t take shortcuts through gardens, alleyways or parks Only visit houses that are decorated and don’t knock if there is a sign saying ‘no trick or treat here’ If you’re wearing a mask, ensure that you can see where you’re going and are aware of your surroundings. Be aware of the law surrounding the appropriate use of fireworks; they can only be used by over 18s and only until midnight. To report anti-social behaviour in your area, call 101 or use Live Chat on our website. | ||
